What are shallots?
Shallots are technically onions, but they look like garlic and have a mild oniony/garlicy flavor. If onions or garlic are too strong for you, substitute shallots for them in your recipes. They will disintegrate into the dish and give a subtle flavor.
Use them in a vinaigrette, roast them like garlic, add them to mashed potatoes, finely mince and add to a salad. They work well with wine-based sauces. Their sweet, mild flavor will enhance any dish where you would otherwise use onions or garlic.
We produce Certified Naturally Grown Dutch Yellow shallots. No pesticides, herbicides or artificial fertilizer. This variety is tender and spicy, with a yellow to cream-colored flesh. The flavor mellows when they're cooked. Dutch Yellow are large, round, gold-skinned - easy to hold and peel, and they store better than other shallot varieties.
They are $4.50 for an 8-ounce bag. Two or more bags are $4.00 each.
Quantity purchase discounts will be reflected in Step 2 of the checkout process.
